Once your home is FORTIFIED™, you will want to stay in touch. Every 5 years, your home will need to be re-inspected and your to FORTIFIED™ Certificate will need to be renewed. State Programs Overview
Grants are available to homeowners in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana that will help pay for the cost of a new roof for your home. While we cannot guarantee you will receive a grant, we will make sure you know when its time to apply.
Alabama's Strengthen Homes Program
The Strengthen Alabama Homes program provides grants to Alabama residents for residential wind mitigation on existing, owner-occupied, single-family homes. The program aims to strengthen homes against severe storms and high winds. The mitigation standard adopted is the FORTIFIED Home™ program developed by IBHS.
Mississippi's Mitigation Discounts
The Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association (MWUA) provides discounts for mitigation with an IBHS certificate and for community enforcement of building codes. Dwellings certified for the IBHS mitigation program receive varying credits based on their certification level.
Louisiana Fortify Homes Program
The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program offers grants up to $10,000 for homeowners to upgrade their roofs to standards set by IBHS. The program aims to help Louisiana homeowners strengthen their roofs to better withstand hurricane-force winds.
