Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a FORTIFIED™ evaluation or inspection cost?
Fees vary with your home’s size, roof complexity and travel distance, but most single-family evaluations fall between $325 – $475. We’ll confirm an exact quote once we know your address and roof type. Please call our office at (251) 348-7450 for pricing.
Do you serve my area?
We routinely cover Mobile & Baldwin counties (AL), the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the western Florida Panhandle. Projects farther afield (e.g., Savannah GA or Carrabelle FL) are possible when our schedule allows; travel surcharges may apply. Contact us with your ZIP code and we’ll let you know the next available date.
What is included in a FORTIFIED™ Roof evaluation, and how long does it take?
A certified evaluator spends 15-30 minutes on site documenting roof deck attachment, underlayment, flashing, and openings; photographs key details; then issues a written report.
How soon can I schedule an inspection?
Our calendar usually books 1-14 days out. If you’re facing a program deadline (e.g., Strengthen Alabama Homes grant openings), tell us and we’ll try to slot you in sooner or add you to our cancellation list. Don’t wait, contact us today!
What are the qualifications for the Strengthen Alabama Homes (SAH) / FORTIFIED™ Roof grant?
Applicants must own and occupy a primary residence in an eligible Alabama county, possess current homeowners insurance, and use an IBHS-certified evaluator. Do I qualify?
Does my roofer have to be FORTIFIED™ certified?
Yes, beginning November 1st, 2025 any roofer installing FORTIFIED™ roofs must complete the appropriate FORTIFIED Wise training.
Can an existing roof be certified after it’s already installed?
Possibly. If the roofer captured the necessary in-progress photos and used compliant materials, we can review the evidence and—if everything checks out up to 5 years after the install—issue the certificate. Without documentation, a full tear-off and re-install to FORTIFIED™ standards may be needed.
How do I renew or re-certify my current FORTIFIED™ designation?
Certificates expire after 5 years. Renewal involves a brief site visit to verify the roof’s condition and any repairs since the original certification. Renewal fees are typically lower than first-time evaluations. Schedule 1–2 months before your expiration date to avoid insurance lapses.

Is ridge-vent (or other attic ventilation) allowed on a FORTIFIED™ roof?
Yes—ridge vents, off-ridge vents, and other passive systems are permitted so long as they meet IBHS High-Wind standards (continuous metal ridge cap, sealed end-stops, and correct fasteners). We’ll review your plans or existing roof to ensure compliance.

What’s the difference between Silver and Gold Fortification and which do I need?
While still providing significant protection, Silver focuses primarily on strengthening the roof and vulnerable areas like doors and windows, but doesn’t address the entire structure as comprehensively as Gold.
Gold adds enhanced load-path connections, opening protection, and a continuous load path to the foundation. Most insurance discounts apply at the Silver (roof-only) level; choose Gold if you’re building new or undertaking major structural upgrades and want full-house resilience.

Testimonials

The owner of Fortified Inspections was very quick to respond to my inquiries about their service. They were on time for all appointments and very professional. They answered all of my questions about the fortification process. When all work was completed at our home, they got in touch with us quickly to get the certificate promptly. I don't believe you will find a better company in this area to do this part of the fortification process. Thanks for all of you help.
Derek did an amazing job with our roof inspection. He was very knowledgable and professional. Derek took many photos and showed us how and where our roof was compromised. He showed up several times during the roof installation and ensured that we received a great quality roof. We HIGHLY recommend this company when looking for an inspector on your roof!
Excellent choice for roof inspections - explained things very clearly for us. Was very prompt on appointments. Highly recommend.
